GRACE UNDER PRESSURE

John Everett Millais

Art. Pre-Raphaelites. Shakespeare. Indie/Guitar/Rock/Classical Music. Taylor Swift.

'I think about what I’d think of my decisions when I’m 80 looking back, and it helps me make sound, responsible choices.' - Taylor Swift

(If you are a band following me in the hopes I will check out your music, I'm sorry but I probably won't. I don't mean to be rude. I usually find new music through NME Radio.)

Sang froid and Equanimity. Grace under pressure.

'Fill the unforgiving minute...'.

'Oh, Maya says I'm lacking in depth,
I will do my best' - The Strokes

'You're all Chrome' - Heads Will Roll - Yeah Yeah Yeahs

'The ballad of a dove. Go with peace and love.' - The Band Perry

'Excuse me if I spoke too soon
My eyes have always followed you around the room' - NGHFB

'Take my hand, knot your fingers through mine / And we'll walk from this dark room for the last time' - Open Your Eyes - SP

'Shut your eyes, I spin the big chair / And you'll feel dizzy, light, and free / And falling gently on the cushion / You can come and sing to me' - Shut Your Eyes - SP

'Come to me. Just in a dream. Come on and rescue me' - Madness - Muse

Desire leads to SUFFERING.

'The whole of life becomes an act of letting go but what always hurts the most is not taking a moment to say goodbye.' - Life of Pi

I’m one of those people who basically get their news from The Daily Show.  Jon Stewart is appointment television for me—especially during the election cycle.  There is so much that is inherently ridiculous about our electoral process…including much of the regular news.  In my opinion, you get a better perspective by watching someone present the information through unabashed satire.  TDS always seems to find great ways to cut through the crap.  In one of their most recent pieces, they sent John Oliver and Jason Jones to a middle school to act as professional campaign strategists to two students running for class president.  This is part one.  The second part aired tonight, with one more still to come.  It is fantastic.  Oliver and Jones sweep in, holding fundraisers at a local steakhouse, pushing negative campaign ads in the cafeteria, and forcing their thirteen year old candidates to hit up their relatives for money over the phone to fill the war chests.  There is nothing funnier than watching Jason Jones and John Oliver swear in frustration while dealing with the slightly confused but still game middle school students.  Score another point for Jon Stewart and the brilliant minds at The Daily Show.
